Wendake: The Road, The Encounters, and The Signs That Accompany Us

There are some journeys that leave a deeper mark than others. Our visit to the Wendake Pow-Wow was one of them. From the first kilometers, we knew it would be special. The road through the Laurentides Park offered us magnificent landscapes. The lakes, rivers, and vast stretches of forest had a calming effect. We naturally slowed down, simply to watch and breathe.

Our faithful van moved gently through the heart of this immense territory, and already, we felt that the journey was as much a part of the experience as the destination itself.

A Peaceful Night at Camp Mercier

We spent the night in the nomadic area of Sépaq Camp Mercier and, honestly, we loved the place. The facilities were impeccable, modern, and very well maintained. Everything was clean, quiet, and thoughtfully designed.

But what struck us most was the warm welcome from the team members. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and kind. We felt welcome from the moment we arrived.

Meeting Our Followers

The Wendake Pow-Wow welcomed us with great generosity. The organizing team was wonderful with the artisans. We felt cherished, respected, and deeply appreciated.

But the greatest gift is always the encounters. Several followers came to see us, chat with us, tell us their stories, or simply thank us. Each time, it touches us deeply.

We sometimes forget that behind a screen, there are real people who read our texts, follow our journeys, and are inspired by this connection to nature that we humbly try to convey.

Artisans and Gifts from the Road

We also met wonderful and extremely talented artisans. These exchanges are always precious, because behind every creation lies years of craftsmanship, transmission, and passion.

I'd like to give a special mention to the artisan Niska, from whom I bought a magnificent pair of moccasins. They are absolutely beautiful and demonstrate remarkable work.

And then there was that little detail that made me smile. I've always found four-leaf clovers almost without looking for them. This time, I realized afterwards that my new moccasins also had hand-embroidered four-leaf clovers on them.

Coincidence? Perhaps. But I like to believe that some symbols accompany us because they are already part of our story.

The Signs That Accompany Us

On the morning of the Pow-Wow, we again saw an eagle on our route. It wasn't the first time. In several Indigenous traditions, the eagle totem animal symbolizes vision, freedom, and the link between the earthly and spiritual worlds. For us, these encounters are always meaningful.

During the weekend, another beautiful encounter left its mark on us. A big-hearted artisan offered me a magnificent hawk feather for my hat. A simple but deeply touching gesture that will remain etched in our memories of Wendake.

The hawk is often associated with clarity, intuition, and the ability to see things accurately. Receiving this feather, at the same moment the eagle crossed our path again, had something special about it.

These small moments, which could easily be called simple coincidences, take on a whole new dimension when one chooses to live more slowly and observe what surrounds us. Nature continues to speak to us, discreetly, through encounters, animals, and acts of generosity that we receive along the way.

We returned from Wendake tired, certainly, but with full hearts. Filled with the landscapes, the encounters, the smiles, the artisans met, and all the little signs that dotted our path.
