Sacred plants and traditions – the plant heritage of Nitassinan

Indigenous peoples have always maintained a deep connection with the plants of the land. They are not just remedies: they are spiritual allies , teachers, and precious offerings from Mother Earth.

My name is Dave Verreault-Thisselmagan , and I carefully select each plant, following the rhythm of the seasons and natural cycles. In this section, I share plants and traditions from my Innu cultural heritage, always with sacred respect for the land and the life it sustains.

Labrador Tea: Breath of the Boreal Forest

Among the treasures of the forest, Labrador tea , hand-picked on Nitassinan, holds a special place in my heart. Renowned for its purifying and soothing properties, it has accompanied moments of contemplation, ceremonies, and healing rituals for millennia.

Its woody and resinous flavor is an invitation to travel. It evokes the scent of moss underfoot, the whisper of wind through spruce trees, and the sacred silence of wide-open spaces. Drinking this infusion is about slowing down, breathing, and reconnecting with what truly matters .

A respectful and conscious approach

For me, harvesting is an act of gratitude. I only take what nature offers, making sure to let the plant continue its life cycle. Each sachet you receive carries within it this intention of respect and this direct connection with the energy of our boreal earth.
